Project Valentine was founded in February of 2002 by Colleen Anderson, with the mission of making Valentine's Day a "little sweeter" for individuals going through cancer treatment in the Denver area.

Colleen was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in February of 2002 and immediately started an arduous schedule of chemotherapy. Colleen decided that she wanted to make a positive difference in her community of fellow cancer patients. Prior to one of her treatments, her boss gave her a bag of candies, chocolate and a card. It was from reflecting back upon this gift from her boss that Colleen came up with the idea to deliver goodies to individuals going through cancer on Valentine's Day...and thus Project
Valentine was founded. Colleen made it her mission to put a smile on the faces of individuals going through cancer treatment - and did so by organizing the delivery of over 400 goody bags each Valentine's day.

Colleen won the 9 Who Care Award for this project in March of 2006, recognizing her outstanding contribution to the community. Sadly, Colleen Anderson passed away during the summer of 2007,  leaving her friends and volunteers wondering just how she managed to do it all, especially while she was receiving treatment at the same time.
