What is Project Valentine?
Project Valentine was founded in February of 2002 by Colleen Anderson, with the mission of making Valentine's Day a "little sweeter" for individuals going through cancer treatment in the Denver area.  Since that time, Project Valentine volunteers have recruited donations, assembled hundreds of goodie bags, and delivered these treats to men, women and children undergoing treatment on Valentine's Day.

What types of donations are needed?
Ideas for bags are endless! Hand-made gifts are not only appropriate, they are often the most appreciated items we distribute. Remember, we serve cancer patients from all walks of life: young and old, male and female, and those of all faiths. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 460534, Aurora, CO 80046 or dropped off at any crafting day (see homepage for schedule and information).

  • Hand made or purchased scarves
  • New paperback books or magazines
  • New DVDs
  • Handmade jewelry or jewelry kits
  • Bookmarks and new decks of cards
  • New CDs of comforting and inspiring music
  • Hand sanitizers and unscented lotions
  • Puzzle books to distract
  • Gift cards ($5 & $10)
  • Snack size bags of treats
  • Stickers and fun Band-Aids
  • Candy, gum, mints - individually wrapped
  • Lip balm to soften a kiss
  • Water bottles
  • Fuzzy, warm socks for the winter
  • Coloring books & crayons for waiting rooms
  • Journals and pretty pens
  • Car wash certificates
  • Men's body wash
  • Items for men are especially needed!
Be creative, we will be delighted with what you give!

Please note: Smells and strong tastes can be hard during chemo, as are so many things...may we suggest fragrance-free items.

Can you accept gently used items?
Unfortunately we cannot accept used items or home-made food items .  Due to the sometimes-delicate medical condition of our recipients, we cannot expose them to any risk of infection through used items.

Do you accept financial donations?
Yes, please make checks out to Project Valentine, Inc. These funds are used to purchase supplemental supplies needed to fill each special bag. Tax receipts are mailed to you at your request; please include request with your check or donation. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 460534, Aurora, CO 80046 or dropped off at any crafting day (see homepage for schedule and information).

When are donations due?
We'd love to have most items received by our Inventory and Final Craft Day (January 16), but will continue to accept donations through 11 am on February 6 (Assembly Day).   This year, gift bags are scheduled to be hand-delivered by volunteers to local cancer clinics on February 12.

How can I get more involved?
Donations can come in the form of your time, too... a couple of hours one afternoon; forwarding our donation request letter to a friend, posting a flier in your break room, telling a neighbor about Project Valentine or joining us for a day of making crafts - it's really up to you!
